In 2013, as NASA marked the end of the Space Shuttle era, a bold new chapter began—one focused on honoring the program’s legacy and inspiring future generations. The result was Space Shuttle Atlantis, a $100 million, flagship attraction at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Nassal was proud to play a pivotal role in transforming this vision into reality.

Working closely with industry partners, Nassal helped design, fabricate and install over 60 immersive visual and interactive experiences that celebrate 30 years and 135 missions of the Shuttle Program. From supersized wall coverings and scenic treatments to fully realized replicas and hands-on exhibits, every detail was crafted to capture the awe and ambition of space exploration.

Key features include a 43-foot-long reproduction of the Hubble Space Telescope, a scale replica of an International Space Station (ISS) module, the Shuttle Launch Experience, and Astronaut Training Simulators with 21 consoles modeled after real NASA training environments. In the On Orbit Gallery, guests encounter an actual 8,000-pound space shuttle main engine and test their spacewalking skills in VR simulators or take command in a life-sized shuttle cockpit. In the Re-entry Zone, visitors discover what it takes for astronauts to safely return the orbiter to Earth.

Over 18 months, Nassal managed the technical complexity, fabrication, and installation of these elements—ensuring authenticity, durability, and emotional impact. From initial design development through final installation, the work reflects our dedication to storytelling through immersive environments.

Nassal is proud to have helped bring Space Shuttle Atlantis to life—the world’s most comprehensive and interactive tribute to NASA’s storied Shuttle Program.
