Nassal completed custom rockwork fabrication, themed finishes and habitat enhancements for the African Overlook Exhibit at Caldwell Zoo, helping create an immersive wildlife experience that brings guests closer to some of Africa's most iconic species. Designed as a major expansion and renovation of the zoo's African habitats, the exhibit combines naturalistic environments, interactive animal encounters and accessible guest amenities to create a memorable and educational destination for visitors of all ages.

As part of the project, Nassal self-performed the fabrication and installation of custom rockwork throughout the exhibit, including shotcrete pools, sculpted boulders and themed rock formations that replicate the landscapes of the African savanna. Using specialized plaster techniques and themed paint finishes, the team transformed the environment into a realistic habitat that supports both animal welfare and guest immersion while creating visually authentic surroundings for the exhibit's resident species.

The African Overlook Exhibit features expanded habitats for elephants and giraffes, providing guests with enhanced viewing opportunities and meaningful wildlife encounters. One of the attraction's signature experiences is the giraffe feeding deck, where visitors can purchase food and interact directly with giraffes from an elevated platform. Nassal's naturalistic habitat work helps create a seamless connection between guests and animals while reinforcing the exhibit's immersive storytelling.

Beyond the animal habitats, the project included a new ADA-accessible pathway, an expanded café with indoor and outdoor seating, a larger elephant yard and pool and an elephant activity center designed to support enrichment and animal care. The custom rockwork and themed environments contribute to a cohesive guest experience that blends recreation, education and conservation awareness.
