Following the loss of the original structure, Nassal partnered with Wekiva Island to create a new waterfront gathering place that honors the character of Old Florida while serving a growing community of visitors along the Wekiva River. The project focused on capturing the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional fish camp, drawing inspiration from the region’s historic riverside destinations and outdoor lifestyle.

Nassal incorporated rustic architectural elements, weathered finishes and handcrafted details throughout the bar to create a space that feels as though it has belonged on the riverbank for generations. Every design decision was guided by the surrounding landscape, allowing the structure to blend naturally into its environment while strengthening the destination’s unique identity. The result is an authentic setting that reflects the history, culture and recreational traditions associated with Florida’s spring-fed waterways.

Today, the Wekiva Island Bar serves as a central hub where guests gather after kayaking, paddleboarding or spending time on the water. Rather than competing with the natural beauty of the site, the architecture complements it, creating a welcoming place to relax, connect and experience one of Central Florida’s most distinctive outdoor destinations.
